Building Modern Plans

Hometta is an international collective of designers, architects, builders, writers, and editors who have banded together to improve the way residential architecture is designed and delivered to the marketplace. Launched in the summer of 2009, Hometta.com featured 24 small modern houses designed by 24 different design studios.  That number has increased over the past years. The plans are available on line for viewing and purchase. Hometta offers a variety of completely modern home plans designed by renowned, award winning and/or published studios from around the world. Each house is under 2,500 square feet and utilizes smart, sustainable materials and design methods. The company also designed and built an immersive virtual marketplace for the houses and custom furniture.

Hometta strives to use social media and the Internet to offer architectural services to a broader segment of the community.  The objective is to create a model that works well with what professional architects and designers are already doing, without cannibalizing their business model. Hometta founding members Andrew McFarland, Mark and Jenny Johnson, recruited a small team of core architects and designers, recognized for their innovative modern design. The architects, James M. Evans, Dawn Finley, Blair Satterfield, and Brett Zamore, were minority owners in the company and had control over which studios will be invited to contribute plans. The four designers also provided oversight on items ranging from gallery shows to promotional materials and the virtual environment H-Town. Other participating studios include Garofalo Architects, MANIFOLD Architecture Studio, Zoka Zola, nArchitects, Alterstudio, Wes Jones, Min|Day, Weathers, and Roger Sherman.
