Marc Swackhamer

Marc Swackhamer is a designer, educator, and Dean of Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. His work explores emergent design, material circularity, and post-human authorship. A founding partner of HouMinn Practice and co-director of HiLo Lab, Marc investigates how biological systems and material behavior can shape new modes of authorship and agency in architecture. He is co-author of Hypernatural: Architecture’s New Relationship with Nature (2015), and has previously led architecture programs at the University of Minnesota and the University of Colorado Denver. Marc holds a B.Arch from the University of Cincinnati and an M.Arch from Rice University.
